Maxim Pumper with 500 gal tank

The Greenville Fire Depart, circa 1950 & 2007

“Nineteen hundred and forty-new was a banner year for the department, this year the Town of Greenville purchased a new pumper. It is a Maxim pump mounted on a 1.5 ton Chevrolet Truck with a two-speed rear end. It has a tank which carriers 500 gallons of water at all times, a 24 foot aluminum extension ladder, a 13 foot aluminum roof ladder, approximately 2000 feet of 2.5 inch hose and 100 feet of 1.5 inch hose, besides all the smaller tools and equipment. The hose house has been remodeled to take care of this equipment, all the work being done by members of the company. This gives the town its first modern piece of apparatus which can serve all the community, both urban and rural.”
